Project Orion VIII - Post Event

Greetings Brother and Sister Scouts!

On the 26th of August we had our post event for Project Orion VIII. The event was hosted by Team Orion VIII and we conducted a day full of activities for the Cub Scouts of 5 different schools. (North View, Mee Toh, De La Salle, Rosyth, Kheng Cheng)

We began the day by having small icebreakers between each unit and one patrol mentor from Team Orion VIII.

After that, we had a sharing done by Bryan and Aadhithya regarding what Project Orion is about to the participants. The sharing consisited of what we did over there in terms of both turtle conservation and immersing ourselves into the culture there. They also conducted a mini quiz with the participants for them to win sweets.

After our sharing, we had a quick break before we boarded the bus and headed to East Coast Park to begin our beach clean up. We cleaned up the whole beach at Area C in East Coast Park with each group amassing almost two full trash bags of rubbish!

No litter was left behind thanks to the hard work of the cub scouts!



After the beach clean up, we then had another short water break and refreshment break for the partiicipants before we continued on with our turtle egg excavation process. We simulated a turtle hatchery by creating plots for each unit to dig up and we buried "eggs" which were ping pong balls in these plots for the cubs to dig up and count just like we would do in the actual situation! 

The cubs had a lot of fun doing the digging as they got to be hands on with the action and enjoyed going through the same processes as we did in Terengganu at the hatchery!

Finally, we ended off the day with a short debrief before we headed back to Scout HQ for dismissal.

Day 5 - 15th June 2017 Greetings, and many, many hellos from the Project Orion VIII Team! Today began with a delicious and hearty breakfast of Fried Kuay Teow coupled with a delicious egg cooked Sunny Side served fresh from Kak Ta's kitchen. Whilst we awaited materials and Pak Awang, the local handyman, to arrive for the construction of Madam Zurinah's Son's Shop, some members of the team set off to a nearby field to try our hand at catching goats, climbing trees, and playing a game of Rugby with a Coconut after we returned, however we received news that Pak Awang was off doing work elsewhere, whilst the materials had not yet arrived, leaving us with nothing to do for the day. Fortunately we were able to find work for the morning dismantling a shack outside Madam Zainab's house to make room for a porch we will build in the coming days. Our work done, and lunch eaten, we cycled back to the Pink House. Afterwards

Day 9 - Rohayu's Porch

Greeting from Terengganu! We started the day with some scrumptious bee hoon goreng at Kak Ta's house. We then headed off to Rohayu's house to build a porch. Pre-Porch Today's porch building was a bit different as Pak Awang who usually helps us was at another job so he could only drop by to do the measurements for us. When he finished up we began digging holes. As the pillar manufacturer ran out of pillars of a certain height we had order a pillar that was longer than the others. For this pillar we had to dig a deeper hole. We learnt that the difficulty of hole digging increases exponentially with its depth as the distance between you and the bottom of the hole is greater causing you to have to bend down more and carry the dirt a longer distance as well. Day 1 - Ghost Crabs and Cats

Greetings from Seitu, Terengganu! After we touched down at the Terengganu Airport we headed to a local hypermart, Mydin to acquire our logistics. We split into pairs and set off in the maze of a hypermart, we originally allocated 15 minutes to finds the logistics and gather back but instead we took more than double of the allocated time. But we managed to buy the necessary items so it all worked out.  Heading to the hypermart At the hypermart Finishing at the hypermart we finally headed off to The Pink House.
