Project Orion VIII

Greetings from Project Orion VIII Team. Today began as per normal we when to Kak Ta's place for breakfast of Chilli Fried Rice and Teh-O panas. Abbas and Keith when to talk to Pak Awang, the local handy man. After discussion, we came to the conclusion of doing Azam's front porch since the materials for Zainah front porch hadn't arrived yet. We cycled to Azam's place and continued work on the front porch.                                                 We were left with the roof of the front porch. We got helped from a neighbor Pak Chek who asked Keith to move aside and take over the job. We even challenged him with a balancing game. Day 5 - 15th June 2017 Greetings, and many, many hellos from the Project Orion VIII Team! Today began with a delicious and hearty breakfast of Fried Kuay Teow coupled with a delicious egg cooked Sunny Side served fresh from Kak Ta's kitchen. Whilst we awaited materials and Pak Awang, the local handyman, to arrive for the construction of Madam Zurinah's Son's Shop, some members of the team set off to a nearby field to try our hand at catching goats, climbing trees, and playing a game of Rugby with a Coconut after we returned, however we received news that Pak Awang was off doing work elsewhere, whilst the materials had not yet arrived, leaving us with nothing to do for the day. Fortunately we were able to find work for the morning dismantling a shack outside Madam Zainab's house to make room for a porch we will build in the coming days. Our work done, and lunch eaten, we cycled back to the Pink House. Afterwards ...

Greetings from Terengganu, Malaysia! Today's our fourth day of our project here in Kampong Mangkok. We started off with a hearty breakfast made by Kak Ta before we started our community work. Today, we built another front porch but this time for another resident called Azam. Azam earns his living as a fisherman. Placing of pillar for the front porch After our community work, we had our lunch before we headed over to Pak Mie's house to prepare seedlings for replantation in the mangroves. We learnt from Pak Mie about how he sells his mangrove seedlings to people to replant and how he has an extra job of being the guard for 7 of the bird's nest factories in the area. Some fun facts about the seedlings he prepares: - The seedlings are Nipah Palms - The Nipah Palm is an important member in the mangrove ecosystem - Usually used as roof material for houses - Used as biofuel for cars After our seedling preparation session, we headed back to the Pink House to plant ...

Greetings from Terengganu, Malaysia! Hello Everybody, today is the second day of our project. Today, after a scrumptious breakfast at Kak Ta's house, we cycled to Mdm Rokiah house for our construction work today. A couple of WHITE scouts waiting for the pakcik to come  As the morning progressed, we had many opportunities to interact with both mdm rokiah's family and the village kids, which were gathered nearby to play. For the construction, after all the specific measurements the pacik painstakingly measured, we had the opportunity to help by digging a large hole which is intended for the pillar to be slotted in the ground. being mostly inexperienced, we took quite a long while to get the hole dug to the pacik's satisfaction. IN THE PROCESS PORCH While taking a break from all the construction work, the project orion team managed to catch a lamb! Despite not completing the whole porch, the whole team felt very satisfied...

Greetings for Trengganu, Malaysia!!! Today is the second day of our project. Today we spent the day familiarising ourselves with the friendly people here and also the various project sites. The day started off with a briefing about the Setiu Wetlands as well as about the types of turtles found at Trengganu Watching a video about the efforts of turtle conservation by the locals and the WWF Entering the hatchery  The staff educating us about the various parts in the hatchery  We freed a late blooming turtle during excavation :) Luqman, a WWF officer showing us the proper method to excavate the fragile eggs  Abbas getting a feel of how excavation is done   Relaxing on a hammock after a fun filled day  This concludes todays activities, stay tuned for more PO VII action tomorrow ! 

Greetings from Seitu, Terengganu! After we touched down at the Terengganu Airport we headed to a local hypermart, Mydin to acquire our logistics. We split into pairs and set off in the maze of a hypermart, we originally allocated 15 minutes to finds the logistics and gather back but instead we took more than double of the allocated time. But we managed to buy the necessary items so it all worked out.  Heading to the hypermart At the hypermart Finishing at the hypermart we finally headed off to The Pink House. We took a sick "Tumblr photo" at the front yard and then we took a group picture by balancing the thousand dollar camera on a bunch of bricks.
