Day 6 - Of Roofs and Mangroves

Greetings from Project Orion VIII Team.

Today began as per normal we when to Kak Ta's place for breakfast of Chilli Fried Rice and Teh-O panas.

Abbas and Keith when to talk to Pak Awang, the local handy man. After discussion, we came to the conclusion of doing Azam's front porch since the materials for Zainah front porch hadn't arrived yet. We cycled to Azam's place and continued work on the front porch.

We were left with the roof of the front porch.

We got helped from a neighbor Pak Chek who asked Keith to move aside and take over the job. We even challenged him with a balancing game. While waiting for Pak Awang who when home to take some stuff.

                                               \

We finished the job around 12pm.

Then we head for lunch at Kak Ta's place and left the place at around 1:45pm to just have a peek of the Muslim tradition on slaughtering the cow to celebration on Hari Raya Puasa called the Qurban.

We head to the Mangrove forest to have a small game of blind fold and remember the tree that your partner picked without using our eyesight. This game is for us to know what is around us. We partnered ourself in a pair and one person gets blindfolded first. We moved around the area making our partner not knowing the tree location from the first glance before the game started. When we picked a tree for our partner (blindfolded). He/she will have to remember the tree without using their eyesight, only using the sense of touch and smell. Given only 3 chances to pick the same tree that the partner picked. Starting at where they first blind folded. Most of us got it in 3 tries.

After the activity, Pak Mie found the flower & fruits of the Nipah Palm and brought us to the location of the Mangrove area which is located opposite his house, near a swamp. He showed us what the fruits and flowers look like and opened a fruit to let us see what was inside. As we know its called the Attap Chee. The one he opened was over-ripe, so we tried to get some fruits from another palm. Which came out to be over-ripe as well, but we were all able to try to open up the fruit.

On the way to the swamp area, Abbas bicycle pedal came off so he had to walk to Kak Ta's house to fix it. Luckily Iguan was there to help Abbas with his pedal.

While waiting dinner time to come, we headed back to the pink house for a quick rest.

Come dinner time we cycled to Kak Ta's house, lots of the villagers gathered around the Mosque to wait for iftar. As they prepared beef to share with the whole village.

Today was Kar Mun, Aahdi & Abbas turn to go for their Night Patrolling. Hope they get to see the Turtle live in action.

In conclusion, today was a eventful day today. Stay tuned for more news!

Yours-In-Scouting,
Team Orion VIII.
